Restoration of Podere Spedalone
The restoration of the inn began in December 2004 and was completed mid 2006..
The structure, typical of farm houses in the region, is in the form of a horseshoe, with an upper wing and a lower wing joined by a central wing, known as the “limonaia”, or conservatory for the lemon trees in the winter. The construction is perfectly oriented north-south. The initial work consisted of reinforcing the foundations, the floors and the roof. Our guiding principle was one of strict conservation of the existing structure; we reutilized all existing materials other than those which were damaged and had to be replaced.
We wish to remember, with affection, all the workmen and technicians, who contributed to the restoration, and M.A Cester, the architect for her artistic direction.
We are currently finishing the construction of a small stone house nearby, which is designed in traditional Tuscan style, and made of leftover materials from the main house. We are also restoring the old abandoned lime kiln, a few hundred meters down the road.
